Serving Jesus in the Community

What is a Christian?

A Christian is someone who:

Believes that there is a supreme God

Believes that that very same God became human and was born as a baby

Believes that that very same God who became human also became the perfect solution (sacrifice) for all sin (wrongdoing, hate, envy etc) by allowing Himself to be crucified

Believes that that very same God who became human and allowed Himself to be  sacrificed on the cross on our behalf also rose from the dead, ascended to Heaven and is alive now, today and forever

Believes that that very same God who rose from the dead and is alive is interested and loves each and every person, and wants each and every person to be part of what He is doing in the world and for the world.

Believes that we each need to accept that God, through Jesus Christ, is the only answer that fully fills our life and guarantees our future

Believes that God, through Jesus, is with us through the very best of times and the very worst of times

Believes that God, through Jesus, knows us better than anyone else and, despite our failings, loves us unconditionally

Believes that when they do something wrong, however big or small, there is a God who, through Jesus Christ, will forgive us completely when we say sorry

Believes that God fills us with His Holy Spirit and He, the Holy Spirit, gives us Joy, Peace and Love.

As the famous Christian author N T Wright has written:

“God is the one who satisfies the passion for justice, the longing for spirituality, the hunger for relationship, the yearning for beauty. And God, the true God, is the God we see in Jesus of Nazareth, Israel's Messiah, the world's true Lord.”
N.T. Wright, Simply Christian: Why Christianity Makes Sense

“Made for spirituality, we wallow in introspection. Made for joy, we settle for pleasure. Made for justice, we clamor for vengeance. Made for relationship, we insist on our own way. Made for beauty, we are satisfied with sentiment. But new creation has already begun. The sun has begun to rise. Christians are called to leave behind, in the tomb of Jesus Christ, all that belongs to the brokenness and incompleteness of the present world ... That, quite simply, is what it means to be Christian: to follow Jesus Christ into the new world, God's new world, which he has thrown open before us.”
